Acumatica, the privately held enterprise cloud technology company, held its annual conference the first week of February with a lot to celebrate. They boasted a year of 83 percent revenue growth, rolled out a new 6.1 version of their software, and highlighted a new Acumatica Commerce Edition. Most impressively, Acumatica’s showcased the future enhancements they are making to their software with the use of Amazon’s Alexa.

Before the conference, Acumatica created an Alexa skill for distribution inventory utilizing its ERP technology. For example, in a warehouse, a worker can walk up and ask how many laptops are in stock and Alexa could give a number and say where the laptops were located. If an item was not available, Alexa would inform them and ask if she should order more.  Click on image above to see demo from the conference.

Although this is still in the experimental stage for now, Acumatica’s CEO, John Roskill, said he believes voice will become a common interface in the enterprise, especially with workers becoming more and more mobile, and with voice-to-text technologies becoming even more accurate.

The response from those attending the conference was positive and Roskill stated he sees the high potential for adoption.

Through Acumatica’s experimentation with Alexa, they learned that it is not ready for the enterprise quite yet. The obstacle being Alexa’s lack of voice authentication (identifying who’s speaking, and granting access and permissions based on role). The company is exploring how to incorporate voice fingerprinting to the software.

Acumatica also has also experimented with Google Home, a competitor to Alexa, and was impressed Google’s API set. Roskill said he thinks Acumatica will also do something with the search giant’s voice platform in the future.

With Acumatica’s commitment to continual technological growth and development, it is evident why the company’s revenue has grown at such a high clip. Acumatica has approximately 200 employees, with 70 percent of them being engineers giving them unique technology focus. They sell through a partner model (not direct) and partners are required to become Acumatica Certified.
